The Retail Burn

So you know who the Hot 100 are in theory, but who do we really want to know about? We've taken the most and least talked about UK retailers and laid them bare; what topics are hot, and what topics are not?

The top talked about retailers in February 2010...

Asda takes the top spot on the most positively talked about retailers list again this month, helped along by several stories the press were never going to ignore, including; the introduction of a 100 day returns policy on clothing and plans to help reduce the cost of IVF.

Having reported consistantly good news for several months now, H&M comes second from top, with JLP's golden goose Waitrose a close third. Both of these retailers have unreservedly pushed on with expansion and have not only managed to hold their own in tough market conditions but actually succeed.

Unsurprisingly, Ethel Austin racked up the highest number of negative press articles this month, focussing heavily on its administration and the subsequent store closures. Confusion over a shelved sale & proposed refinancing plans did no favours for Matalan, who are second from bottom.
