At C&J Clark he managed Torlink, a Division responsible for improving sales and profit performance of Clark stockist retailers through business consultancy and development of new retail businesses including franchising from its start in 1966 to 300 retailer clients and 70 new businesses in 1976. He joined Bally UK as Group Marketing Director with responsibilities which included all own-retail and franchise development from 12 shops in 1976 to over 200 in 1987. After Harvard Business School he was for four years Head of Bally’s Wholesale Division in addition to his marketing responsibilities and worked internationally on product development, research, promotion and retailing projects. He joined Fripp Sandeman in 1988 and became Managing Director in 1990. He has extended the company’s range of retail advisory work, carries out individual projects and ensures consistency of approach in all FSP output to clients. He also acts a Retail Expert, speaks to trade gatherings on retailing and shopping centre issues and writes training and other material including case studies. Geoff Nicholson MA MBA - Director / Senior Consultant e-mail: Geoff Nicholson has extensive retail experience in both mail order – as Marketing Manager at Empire Stores – and in shops, carrying out a variety of senior jobs before becoming Retail Managing Director of Hornes. He has an MBA from Wharton (University of Pennsylvania) and has worked in retail consultancy, first with the TMS Partnership, where he dealt with many of the major clothing and footwear retailers, and since 1989 with Fripp Sandeman. He works on a wide variety of shopping and shopping centre tasks including some of the biggest in the UK. Beyond the normal run of work, recent projects have included an appraisal of the effectiveness of the administration of Service Charges, the development of Customer Relationship Management systems and conducting a retail impact study outside the UK. He is a member of the Market Research Society, a course tutor and examiner for the BCSC Diploma in Shopping Centre Management and has been a director of Fripp Sandeman since 1994. John Fell - Director / Senior Consultant e-mail: John Fell joined C&J Clark after graduating in Business Studies at Aston University. His career has given him wide retailing and management experience at Clarks, Lotus and Bally in the shoe industry, Courage in brewing and Fios Textiles. At Alexon Group he was UK Sales Director for Dash before spending three years as the Alexon Group Development Director. He has wide commercial experience in Europe and the Far East. He was Managing Director of In-Wear UK plc from 1992, joined Fripp Sandeman in September 1994 and was appointed a director in 1995. He is responsible for shopping centre and training projects and works on some of our most important implementation work involving department store repositioning, Food Court catering and Shopping Centre portfolio benchmarking. Present tasks include market analysis and positioning for an international fashion retailer Mark Millward BSc MA – Director / Senior Consultant e-mail: Mark Millward spent 12 years in operational retail management in the department store sector before joining Fripp Sandeman. He was a graduate entrant to Harrods Executive Training Scheme and was with John Lewis Partnership for 10 years from 1985. He held selling Department Managerships at Heelas of Reading, and John Lewis Kingston; in 1988 became Branch Merchandise Systems Adviser on the management team that opened John Lewis High Wycombe; was appointed Assistant to the Managing Director, Jessops of Nottingham in 1992. He joined Fripp Sandeman in 1996 and became a Director in 1998. He is involved in developing the company’s range of work and clients and has worked on town and shopping centre projects including: * pre-development impact studies * centre extensions and enlargements * new trading and marketing strategies * new catering / leisure strategies All involve new consumer research, assessments of retail sales performance, market quantification and analysis, affordable rents and merchandise and tenant mix issues. He has worked on catering and leisure projects, has acted as Retail Expert and is currently leading a major airport retailing project. Joanna Hewson – Retail Consultant e-mail: Joanna Hewson joined Miss Selfridge as a graduate trainee in 1982, progressing to Senior Branch manager before moving to Alexon Group in 1985 as Area Manager and subsequently Regional Manager for Dash. Her operational experience encompasses both High Street and concession retailing. In 1990 she was instrumental in a new brand launch as UK Sales Manager for Genesis which included opening 50 outlets over a six month period. From 1992, with Baird Clothing Group, she was initially UK / Europe Sales and Operational Controller for the Windsmoor Group and was appointed Sales Director of Baird Outerwear Brands in 1998. She joined Fripp Sandeman in February 2000.
